Wifi

Wifi is the technology that connects devices to the internet or to each other using radio waves, without cables.

An access point broadcasts the signal and nearby devices -phones, computers, TVs- connect to it. Its range goes from a few dozen metres indoors to more in open spaces, and it is the usual way to provide connectivity in homes, offices and public places such as stations, shopping centres or event venues.

Public wifi networks make it possible, with the user’s consent when connecting, to learn anonymously and in aggregate how many people pass through a space and how long they stay. It is one of the sources through which behaviour in the physical world becomes a digital audience.
